Lausanne is easily accessible:
- by road (A1/E25 and A9/E27 motorways)
- by rail (CFF network, EC Direct and TGV from Paris and Milan)
- by air (60 km from Geneva International Airport, in 45 minutes by car or by train)
- … and by water (!), thanks to the boats operated by the Compagnie Générale de Navigation on Lake Leman.
–> For most international travelers, the best option is to fly to Geneva, then travel to Lausanne by train (~50 minutes, with frequent trains about every ~15 minutes from the Geneva Airport).
–> Flying to Zurich is another option. The train trip from Zurich to Lausanne is ~2 hours.

The Swiss railroads are operated by SBB/CFF/FFS.
Tickets can be purchased directly at rail stations from vending machines. No reservation is usually required, especially for local trips (e.g. Geneva <–> Lausanne). Most credit cards, as well as cash (Swiss francs and Euros only!), are accepted.
The main rail station in Lausanne is Lausanne Gare. From there, the city center and most hotels are easily reachable by foot or public transportation.
